Wyoming Hunger Initiative is often approached about ways in which the general public, corporations, and others can volunteer as part of the organization. Being that Wyoming Hunger Initiative’s mission is to support the grassroots efforts across Wyoming, it has been challenging to develop a volunteer opportunity until now.
The power of volunteering is equally as important as donating money because it brings personal time, skills, and energy directly to causes, creating meaningful impact beyond financial support. Volunteering builds stronger communities, fosters connection, and inspires others to get involved, making change more tangible and lasting.
As a way to increase awareness and to bring people together, Wyoming Hunger Initiative launched an inaugural day of volunteering in Cheyenne as a pilot community. Through a partnership with Serve Wyoming, Wyoming Hunger Initiative invited the general public, corporations, and others to volunteer in either one or both slots at a hunger relief organization of their choice.
Collaboration strengthens problem-solving, increases efficiency, and builds trust, enabling individuals and teams to achieve goals that would be difficult to accomplish alone. Furthermore, the most difficult task in volunteer recruitment is getting folks in the door for the first time. The desired outcome of this event will be to raise awareness and build relationships between volunteers and local hunger relief organizations.
Lunch was provided by Chef Petrina at the Governor's Residence, serving both as a break between volunteer shifts and a celebration of the amazing work done by all the volunteers.

This event was made possible by Serve Wyoming, who created and managed the volunteer registration platform, and by Jonah Bank, who generously sponsored the lunch and provided free t-shirts.

Together, we are stronger—and when we unite, we have the power to fight food insecurity across Wyoming. By working hand in hand, supporting one another, and pooling our resources and compassion, we can ensure that no one in our communities goes hungry. Change starts when we come together.
